Just a short note, because we've had a busy day here, but wanted to make note that Ty and I had a lot of fun today.
Brian was in a golf (ball golf, even) tournament from early this morning till mid-afternoon, and then went to the Royals game with Jon Rieck and another friend, so Ty and I hung out together, and with GiGi and Granddad most of the day.
First, we took the stroller on teh path and ran the 5.7 miles from our house to GiGi's. That's a long time in the stroller, so we stopped to play at the two parks on the way there. Hot and humid by the time we got there at 10:00.
Had lunch with the Garvers and then went to Leavenworth to see Joel Garver's basketball game. What fun! Joel is on a competitive MAYB team, and Ty got to play a little basketball with the ref during a time out!
After the game, we all got in the car and went up to Ft. Leavenworth. On the post, we got out and saw the Buffalo Soldiers monument, and the War College, and then went shopping at the Commissary and the PX.
Went back to GiGi and Granddad's (our car was at the house, so riding with them!) and had a quick dinner, and then just Ty and Granddad went out to see Granddad's Corporate Challenge team play softball. They didn't get back to the house (Brechler's, by this point) until almost 9, and then a quick bath and some medicine for blisters (too much walking at the Deanna Rose petting zoo in flip-flops on Friday) and then right to bed. He was out in about 15 minutes.
Feel like some of the events today will be "snapshot memories", so just watned to document what all they were.

Growing up...
Well, I have had a couple of real "wow, he's growing up" moments in the last couple of days.
The real one was yesterday. We drove up to the house, and the neighbor boy was playing basketball in the front yard with a friend. Ty really wanted to go out and play with him, and I couldn't persuade him to play in our backyard by himself. The neighbor is probably 8 years old or so, and I didn't think he'd want to play with Ty. I felt protective and didn't want Ty to be rejected, but he took off toward the boys and announced "Hi. My name is Ty. Do you want to play basketball?" It took my breath away.
Turns out the neighbor boy is amazingly sweet and gracious, and introduced Ty to his friend and they all 3 played basketball, soccer, and hide and seek for almost an hour. I had to (almost literally) drag Ty in to go to bed.
Time flies when you're having fun.

Volleyball today
Ty and I got back late from Volleyball tonight - about 8:45. He was there for games from 6:15 on, and was really great. He played and played in the sand - kicked a soccer ball, dug around, picked grass from the sides of the courts, and then, as it got later, wanted to "play volleyball with you mom," rolled around (LITERALLY) in the sand, and took giant fistfulls of sand to put in the trash cans (sorry, whoever has to empty them) and his own hair.
But we had a great time!
Oh, and on the way to Topeka today, GiGi taught him how to sing "Jesus Loves Me" and "Zacchaeus Was A Wee Little Man."

I think I need one of these!!!!
Meg just sent me a link to her site (http://taumrandburke.site.shutterfly.com), and wow - I think I need one of my own. Those of you that know me, know that I like to put up the pictures, but I love how this one combines what I wanted to do with blogs, links, membership, and the like. So, here we go, trying it out...

"We Built This City"
Ty's new favorite song is "We Built This City", a la 1985 (or so) Starship. Meg says "Congratulations, officially one of the worst songs of all time," but I have to admit that it is darn cute to see him rocking out, singing it loud.
